« Retour la listeMijas PuebloMijas Pueblo : Mijas Pueblo, Located at only at 8km from the coastal city of Fuengirola with its mountain setting, narrow streets and whitewashed houses, Mijas Village is a popular excursion. Despite the fact that Mijas caters so obviously for the tourist it has retained its charm of a little village. The setting is lovely at 428meters of altitude which offers magnificent views of the pine clad mountains and the sea. Its proximity to the coast, about 20 minutes drive, makes it an ideal excursion for the day. The origins of the village date back to the moors and the most central church ´iglesia de la concepcion inmaculada´ which was built in the 17th century on the site of a former mosque. More recently, several ancient wall paintings were discovered here during renovation. Just beyond the Donkeys parking is a cave which serves as a shrine to the villages patroness "La virgin de la peña" (shrine of the virgin of the rock).Apparently the virgin Mary appearded to a daughter of the family who once lived here. To commemorate the event, a tiny image of the virgin is kept here, thought to date back to AD850. There is also a thriving arts and crafts movement in Mijas, particularly linen and wicker items, and the locally made bread and honey are definitely worth trying. The main attraction in Mijas Pueblo is that you can enjoy a stroll with “the Donkeys Taxis” Tourist Office (Ayuntamiento) Plaza Virgin de la peña, s/n Tel : +34 952 589 034
